The Martian [movie]

THIS MOVIE IS REALLY GOOD. THE FUNNY THING THOUGH IS THE BOOK IS LIKE LARGELY JUST A TRILLION DISASTERS BECAUSE THE POINT IS TO WORK OUT SOLUTIONS FOR A BUNCH OF HYPOTHETICALS AND THE MOVIE WAS MORE NARRATIVE SO LIKE MAYBE FOR THE FIRST TIME IN HISTORY A MOVIE TOOK A VERY SMART BOOK AND SAID "THERE IS TOO MANY ACTION SCENES! CUT SOME!" INSTEAD OF THE REVERSE.
 
 
PS. I ACTUALLY FEEL A LITTLE SAD AND SCARED BECAUSE I FEEL CULTURALLY WE ARE GOING THROUGH A TRANSITION. LIKE AS A RACE WE HAVE GIVEN UP SPACE TRAVEL BUT THIS/GRAVITY/INTERSTELLAR ARE STILL OUR COLLECTIVE CULTURAL MYTH THAT SPACE IS HARD AND EVERYTHING SPINS AROUND BUT AT THE END IT WORKS OUT OKAY. I FEEL LIKE I WILL LIVE TO SEE THE NEXT GENERATION OF MOVIES THAT ARE JUST 'SPACE IS SCARY, EVERYTHING THERE DIES" WITH NONE OF THE HOPEFULNESS LEFT.

 Encanto [movie] I FEEL LIKE THIS WAS A GOOD MOVIE THAT WAS WAY TOO UNFOCUSED TO BE A GREAT MOVIE. LIKE THE WHOLE OPENING SONG WAS A JOKE THAT THEY WERE INTRODUCING TOO MANY CHARACTERS THEN IT FELT LIKE ALL THE ISSUES EVERYONE WAS HAVING WAS SUPER LIGHT BECAUSE THERE WAS TOO MANY CHARACTERS. LIKE THE WHOLE "I HATE MY SISTER/OH I'M SO MAD I MAD A CACTUS/ACTUALLY I'M HAPPY NOW" ARC IS LIKE A MINUTE OF SCREEN TIME FOR NO REASON.  PS. I FEEL LIKE REWRITING IT SO ANIMAL KID WAS HIDING UNDER THE BED MORE SPECIFICALLY BECAUSE GRANDMA WOULD HATE HIM IF HE DIDN'T HAVE A GOOD POWER WOULD HAVE MADE THE CONFLICT SEEM LESS PULLED OUT OF NO WHERE. LIKE A GRANDMA HAVING TOO HIGH EXPECTATIONS IS REASONABLE BUT IT'S NEVER REALLY ESTABLISHED AS A PROBLEM UNTIL IT'S A PROBLEM.

 Magicats! [book] Space-Time for Springers : This is just "my cat is sad" but wacky. A kitten convinced it will grow up to be human.  The Game of Rat and Dragon : This is some real extreme nonsense 1970s sci-fi. Things from the dark eat you if you travel through warp space, but human brains are too slow to react to the millisecond attacks, so they have to make psychic entanglement with strong hunter cats. There is vague romantic undertones to this.  The Cat from Hell: Oh, it's that stephen king story.  It's that thing from the tales from the darkside movie. The one king doesn't know how cats or mouths work.  Out Of Place: I don't remember anything about this story and have just reskimmed it right now and still can't tell you anything about it.  Schrödinger's Cat: I absolutely love Ursula K Leguin, but oof, this book just didn't work. It has a strong feeling of a metaphor based on some not quite right 1970s pop understanding of physics. Maybe it'
