The Power [book, audiobook]

 The Power [book, audiobook]

STARTING TO READ THIS BOOK IT FELT PAINFULLY RIPPED OFF TRYING TO BE MARGARET ATWOOD THEN IT TURNED OUT THE AUTHOR JUST ACTUALLY WORKED WITH MARGARET ATWOOD TO WRITE IT THEN ALSO IT'S SO EXTREMELY GOOD THAT IT TOTALLY EARNS BEING A MORE DIFFERENT REVERSE HANDMAIDENS TALE. LIKE IT JUST STEALS AND FLIPS A SPECIFIC ELEMENT SO WHOLESALE BUT IT DOES IT SO WELL THAT IT TOTALLY EARNS IT. THE WHOLE BOOK IS REALLY WELL DOWN. HONESTLY THAT FEELS LIKE WHAT MAKES IT SO GOOD, IT'S A BOOK THAT JUMPS AROUND TO DIFFERENT THINGS AS THE WORLD CHANGES AND YOU CAN JUST FEEL HOW SMART THE AUTHOR IS, WHERE EVERY TIME THEY WRITE IN THE VOICE OF A MEN'S RIGHT MESSAGE BOARD, OR A THEOLOGICAL LEADER OR A FAKE EVOLUTIONARY BIOLOGY CLAIM YOU CAN JUST FEEL 'GOD, THEY DID SUCH A GOOD JOB MAKING THIS UP FOR THIS STORY". IT'S A REALLY REALLY WELL WRITTEN BOOK.

PS. IT FEELS A LITTLE CONSTRAINED THAT THE BULK OF THE BOOK TAKES PLACE OVER TEN OR SO YEARS. THERE IS SO MUCH STUFF THAT HAPPENS SO COMICALLY FAST. LIKE IT WORKS, IT DOES A GOOD JOB EXPLAINING HOW THE CURRENT SOCIAL STRUCTURES AROUND GENDER FORMED, BY HAVING THE STORY GO THROUGH THEM FLIPPING, BUT IT'S FUNNY HOW MANY THINGS WORK THROUGH HUNDREDS OF YEARS OF OPPRESSION IN LIKE A SINGLE DAY. LIKE IT AVOIDS HAVING WOMEN JUST DO THINGS BECAUSE MEN DID, AND WORKS OUT THE STEPS OF IT ALL REFORMING AN ANALOG EXACTLY BY ANALOGY. BUT LIKE, IN A WEEK.
