The Seven Moons of Maali Almeida [book, audiobook]

The Seven Moons of Maali Almeida [book, audiobook]

EVERYONE SAID THIS BOOK WAS REALLY GOOD, AND THEN I READ IT, AND IT WAS REALLY GOOD AND THAT ISN'T HOW THAT USUALLY WORKS. I REALLY LIKE HOW IT WAS A PREMISE THAT HAS BEEN DONE A BILLION TIMES: THE AFTERLIFE AS DMV TYPE BUREAUCRACY (BEETLEJUICE, SOUL, RIPD, GOOD PLACE, ETC) BUT FROM A NON-WESTERN, NON-CHRISTIAN WORDVIEW. WHERE IT'S BASICALLY EXACTLY THE SAME, BUT JUST VERY SLIGHTLY DIFFERENT THAN OTHER VERSIONS. I GUESS I'M BEING VAUGE BECAUSE I KNOW OTHER PEOPLE WILL READ THIS UNLIKE THE OBSCURE BOOKS I READ THAT NO ONE ELSE WILL EVER READ. I DO THINK ENDING WAS GOOD, BUT THE VERY VERY END BOOK FELT LIKE A FORCED "MAKE THIS DEEP AND SPIRITUAL" IN A WAY THAT DID NOT FIT AT ALL.

PS.  MY FAVORITE PART OF THE BOOK WAS FEELING VERY CULTURED AND COSMOPOLITAN FOR KNOWING HOW MUCH A LAKH IS (AND WHAT BETEL IS)
