The Star Diaries [book, audiobook]

 The Star Diaries [book, audiobook]

I WAS GOING TO USE THIS AS BOOK IN THE FUTURE, BUT IT'S JUST SUCH A GOOD BOOK I AM GIVING IT 'COZY BOOK". IT'S JUST SO GOOD, I LOVED READING IT.

IT'S BASICALLY GULLIVER'S TRAVELS BY WAY OF FUTURAMA, WRITTEN IN THE 1950S IN THE USSR. THE FORMAT IS SPACE GUY IJON TICHY HEADS TO A PLANET FOR SOME TRIVIAL REASON, THE PLANET HAS SOME OUTLANDISH PREMISE, THEN IT'S SOME SOCIAL COMMENTARY ON SOCIETY OR SOME SCIENTIFIC THEORY OR A CRITICISM OF CHRISTIANITY AND THEY ARE ALL JUST REALLY SMART BUT EMBEDDED IN THE GOOFIEST NONSENSE POSSIBLE. LIKE, REPEATING THEMES ARE SOCIETIES WHERE EVERYONE ON THE PLANET HATES THEIR STUPID GIMMICK BUT NO ONE CAN SPEAK UP, ALIEN SCIENTIST PROVING HUMANS CAN'T EXIST,  TIME LOOP STUFF,  BAD KID IN SUNDAY SCHOOL QUESTIONS LIKE "SO IF YOU GET CRYOGENICALLY FROZEN WHEN DO YOU DECIDE IF YOU GO TO HEAVEN OR NOT" AND LIKE, A STORY WHERE THOUSANDS OF YEARS IN THE FUTURE PEOPLE TRY TO CLEAN UP THE PAST THROUGH TIME TRAVEL THEN CREATE THE WORLD AS IT IS NOW THROUGH A BUREAUCRATIC POORLY RUN ORGANIZATION.

I'M NOT REALLY SURE HOW TO DESCRIBE HOW GOOD THIS IS, I FEEL LIKE IT WAS JUST REALLY GREAT AT SPINNING UP WHOLE STORIES AND PREMISES AS JUST THROW AWAY LINES. LIKE REPEATED THEMES TAKING SOMETHING TO THE EXTREME JUST MENTIONED OFF HAND, LIKE A PLANET THEY TRY TO CONTROL THE POPULATION BY DESIGNING PEOPLE FOR THEIR IDEAL JOB TO THE POINT THEY MAKE DOING THEIR JOB FEEL SEXUAL THEN EVERYONE SWAPPING JOBS BECAUSE THEY ARE ALL SO PURITANICAL THEY NO LONGER WANT JOBS THEY LIKE.

PS. I READ THE INVINCIBLE ELSEWHERE ON THE LIST, I FOUND THAT BOOK REALLY SMART BUT TOO DRY AND DULL. THEN TOTALLY ON A WHIM I SAW A WEIRD EXPERIMENTAL PLAY THAT WAS AN ADAPTATION OF ONE OF THESE STORIES INTO A LIVE MULTIMEDIA COMPOSITE THING AND IT WAS WONDERFUL AND HILARIOUS AND I NOW I WANT TO KEEP READING MORE OF THIS, THERE IS ANOTHER BOOK THEN MORE STORIES AND I JUST WANT TO KEEP READING THEM ALL.
